At Brain & Life, we write about the brain in every issue. We talk to neurologists and other experts about how to treat brain and nervous system disorders. We talk to readers and caregivers about what it's like to live with chronic, progressive diseases. We also provide valuable information about how to protect brain health.
Now imagine all that information, all those experts, and all our readers coming to a town near you-live and in person.
That's exactly what it's like at the Brain Health Fair, a free public event brought to you by the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), the world's largest association of neurologists and neuroscientists and the same organization that brings you Brain & Life and BrainandLife.org.
This year's event will be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia on Thursday, May 9, 2019, during the AAN Annual Meeting, where thousands of neurologists and other brain experts convene to present and discuss the latest research and best practices for patient care.
Diverse Activities
Here are just a few of the activities you'll be able to participate in at the Brain Health Fair: Walk through a gigantic replica of the brain; meet with neurologists to ask questions about the brain; hold human and animal brains; sign up for an electroencephalogram; and learn more about common and rare brain and nerve disorders. You'll also learn how to keep your brain healthy for life.
Student Scholars
In a special program, selected high school students with a passion for neurology and neuroscience will have the opportunity to participate in an immersion course. They will learn how to perform a neurologic exam, read and interpret brain waves and brain scans, dissect animal brains to learn about brain structure and function, examine human brains to find evidence of structural abnormalities, and talk to experts about how to pursue a career in neurology. The immersion course is designed to nurture students' love of neuroscience and inspire them to spend their lives working with patients and studying the wonders of the brain.
Something for Everyone
The Brain Health Fair is perfect for families, school groups, people with brain or nerve disorders (the convention center is wheelchair accessible), and anyone interested in brain health. Many booths have interactive displays designed to engage both adults and children.
And don't forget to visit the Brain & Life booth, where you can meet the editorial team and pick up copies of the magazine and free brochures about brain disease in English and Spanish. If you live in or are visiting the Philadelphia area, stop by; we would love to meet you!
